Stephen burgess

Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Yorkshire based artist Stephen Burgess attended Newcastle College of Art and Design before gaining a degree in Animation at the University of Wales College, Newport.

Stephen works predominantly in pencil and acrylic paints for portraits and larger scale artwork, using digital drawing technology for his illustrative work.

"I believe the style and medium used should suit the subject and the brief and be chosen to achieve the desired effect for the individual piece of work."

Stephen lives in Stanley a village in Wakefield, West Yorkshire with his wife , daughter and cat. When not drawing or painting he enjoys movies, a little astronomy or can occasionally be heard strumming unconvincingly on his guitar.

"I have such a broad range of influences, from movies and comic book art, to music and paintings by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. If I could nail down a style I would, but each image takes on a life of its own and grows organically as I fight with it for creative control."

Stephen is available for commissions in traditional or digital media. Use the contact form below to get in touch if you wish to commission a unique piece of artwork.

Original artwork and prints are available direct from the artist. Use the contact form for any enquiries.

"A canvas drenched in rage. Fine details, grimace and certain lifelessness of an existence revolving around traumatic action. The end of naivety. A fiery Walking Dead fan art for an impassioned Season 5."

"I have seen the finished picture of Summer and I am absolutely thrilled with it, you have captured her features so well."

"I keep looking at the extremely accomplished and beautiful painting you did of our late cat Phoebe...You have not only captured her physical form perfectly, but her personality shines through which is so difficult to bring out in a portrait, especially of a cat"
Marian, private commission.
